Scout Crossing Tutorial
Hey People! Sorry that there is no update this week, but here is a quick post on how I start a panel in Scout as opposed to the one I did almost 2 years ago. I’m by no means super skilled or anything, and all these steps are pretty basic, so I hope it’s at least a little nifty, or can provide some guidance to anyone who is just starting to play with digital illustration and coloring. Anyways, hope you like, and see you all next week! (happy holidays, too!)
Always fun to see how you work
Glad you’re striving to produce better artwork, but personally, I LOVE this style! I think the grittiness of it works perfectly with the story.
I really like your work! Your illustrations are your’s! And they are great! Real artists always strive to do better so guess where that puts you? Thank-you for the wonderful strips, the charactors are, great has already been used so, exaggerently real. (yes, I made that word up) Have a HAppy New Year!
youre way to hard on yourself. you put yourself down while being a fantastic writer and illustrator :/
Something that’s awesome about your comic’s, Scott. They’re personal. You interact with your fanbase, and it’s…awesome.
I love the comic, and your artwork is growing better and better all the time. Please don’t doubt your worthiness as an artist. You’re a good storyteller too!
Best in the New Year, I’ll be here!
Even if you didn’t improve the artwork I’d still be coming back time and again to read this story because I love the art and the story is excellent, you do great stuff!!
I just got an Intuos 5 and am still trying to get used to working on it and playing around to see what I can do, so this tutorial is actually really helpful. I think your work is amazing, and I hope I can grow to be as good at digital art in my own traditional style. Keep dishin’ out the masterpieces!
I read like 30 webcomics, none of them can match your comic’s beauty:) They are also very ineresting, too ineresting, make a lot more for about 50 years:D
You do what you do very well, there is no luck in the number of people that follow your webcomics. And I am not only talking about the art.
I know what it is to doubt of yourself. What I see from here is gorgeous. No matter how or why or what hides behind.
Happy new year, Scot.
Dude, you are selling yourself waaaay short. I think you are a VERY talented illustrator. I follow Nerf-This religiously, but Scout Crossing is just amazing. I love the art work and the story is looking damn interesting. It would be cool if we got updates more regularly, but I understand that you must have other priorities. Btw these tutorials are hella interesting. I messed around a lot with drawing and image manipulation after reading them. Thanks for the awesome comics, keep it up! I really do appreciate it.
“i am by no means a skilled illustrator….making some (shit load of) mistakes”
…are you effing kidding me man?! your work is frickin amazing, and im a skilled illustrator, and still haven’t learned how to do half the things you can yet. there are no mistakes in art, only “adjustments” that must be made, there is no right or wrong in art, so don’t be so hard on yourself, i don’t want you to end up like my friend who just gave up art because he thought he wasn’t good enough, because he sounded just like this before he quit. keep up the great work.
Dear Scott,
Every time I read through one of your comics, and get up to the current post, I hate you just a tiny bit because I enjoy your work so much. It’s like getting to my last itty bit of comic crack. Thank you for doing such great work.
Your comics in general are amazing, not naming any others but some actually require the reader community to pay before they draw another panel. I like that you have mini tutorials for your illustration styles, and that you do actually improve as you go. It’s not wrong to care about the readers, and I love that you are going to be always better as an artist, but you don’t need to tell your fandom that, the people that read your webcomics are the ones that really like them. I actually prefer this to your others, but I know Nerf-This is more popular in general. Just another fan announcing his appreciation of your style.
Your story is interesting, your art has excellent style, and I find myself coming back multiple times a day hoping to find a new page up. I wouldn’t set myself as the standard, but I’d say you do a bang up job as a webcomic artist. I read over 200 different webcomics regularly and yours goes on a special list because of how special it is. As a reader, I get to take away that great sense of satisfaction from each page. To that point I wish to thank you for all the hard work you put into your comics. For your readers and for yourself (hopefully that last part). It is always appreciated.
Ill say it agin, if you start selling this as a comic ill buy it.
I second that.
third
It’s 3 am here and I have just gotten caught up on this comic. I also read Nerf-this religiously. I do think you are too hard on yourself… and as proof of how awesome you are I’ll share a little secret: My boyfriend has stated a few times now that he really would not be offended if I ever left him to date you. He has said that he would probably just give you a gentlemanly handshake and a “well done Sir”. I’m assuming that in guy-speak that’s a damn good compliment since he has to fight off a lot of others. But, you always apologize for something in your feeds. Don’t. Your art and concepts are beyond amazing.
I can’t wait for the next issue, this is quickly becoming one of my top favorite webcomics. I love the story, the premise, the characterizations and especially the art. Keep it up, take risks and never hesitate to push your limits.
So I have been meaning to tell you that I have started work on my sleeve tattoo based on scotts.
Goddamit man, its been almost a year since I discovered you, ad year of me drawing, and I cant even get my shit to look like this.
How long does this take you?
