Somehow, I didn’t see that coming… Well Scott, you’ve proved your mastery of foreshadowing… Could use some work on subtlety…. Just kidding. I’d be disappointed if this WASN’T “over the top.” Keep up the good work. 😉

Well unlike any other of the dozen or so webcomics I read, I check Nerf-This and Scout Crossing about 5 times a day. Because I’m crazy and I love them.

Ok, This comic is totally NOT what I expected, and I LOVE IT. I really thought it was going to take a http://Questionablecontent.net type turn and just be funny indy hipsters, but this whole mysterious Six, and people with POWERS, is AWSEOME. Keep it coming man. KEEP IT COMING!

Just warning of a typo: I think (unless I misunderstood), it’s spelled climactic and not climatic, since the first comes frome the ancient greek climax, synonyme for acme (argh, I can’t help I always have to correct people at languages I can’t even speak better than them :# )

yes, it’s supposed to be CLIMACTIC…climatic means related to the climate, as in the weather.

Although I really like everything that comes out of Nerf, this feels a little too SCOTT PILGRIM for anything but Scott Pilgrim. Motokool on the other hand, now thats worth continuing. A Monty monster thats a big as a bear, wearing a monocle? AWESOME!!! I think the story had originality and a good direction. If there are six evil ex-somethings, I’m out, over caput.

I read what you wrote and was disappointed, it seems that today, if one starts an indie hipster comic, they’re bombarded with being like QC, if it’s an indie/hipster comic with super powers, people cry wolf about it being like Scott Pilgrim. Plus this comic is only 20 posts in and we met 3 characters.

I do agree with you, Motokool was really good too, I’d like to see it come back.

Scout is a comic I created, dedicated to my older brother(who Scout resembles), it’s just a fun comic I like doing that pokes fun at trends and labels, and the people who display these labels (scene kids, grad students, artists, etc), it has nothing to do with evil ex’s, or chasing a girl, if I did that… and as we move into the story, the plot is different entirely… I will be updating Motokool very soon, so I’m happy you enjoy that. Thank you for your interests and concerns, I do appreciate you writing, it really means a lot to me.

I wholeheartedly agree with guyguy – this story has just begun. It’s not like Scout is running around pulling swords out of his chest and going home to talk about it with his gay roommate Willis. We don’t even know what this six of something are yet, although I personally am hoping it’s six talking honey badgers. Having a plot line with an organized group/league/team is in no way a rip off of Bryan Lee O’Malley. Having a comic that calls out pretentious cultural sterotypes is in no way plagiarizing him either. He didn’t invent these concepts, much like JK Rowling didn’t invent wizards and the writers of Scooby Doo didn’t invent dogs. There are a handfull of archetypal story telling elements that have appeared in art and literature over and over again for thousands of years – good vs. evil, fighting for love, an underdog protagonist who comes of age, etc. Scott Pilgrim makes heavy use of video game references and didn’t even think of his own title – he got the name “Scott Pilgrim” from a band. Everything is influenced by or coincidentally similar to something that came before it, and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

I’ve been following Scott’s comics since he started NerfThis more than a year ago. He approaches his art and writing with an incredible amount of diligence and integrity. He has pushed himself time and time again to improve his art, writing, character development, and story lines. He’s never content to settle for less than his very best, and is passionate about providing quality work for his readers, who he cares about quite a bit. Scott openly acknowledges the other artists who influence him and has a great deal of respect for their work. I give him far more credit than to wallow in unoriginality and blatantly steal ideas from any other series, let alone one as popular as Scott Pilgrim. He wouldn’t do that to those other artists, his readers, or himself.

I’m excited to see where this story goes, and am wary of jumping the gun and making early comparisons. I think as this story unfolds we’ll all be surprised time and time again with something creative and unique. I would love to see this grow into a printed series, especially if there are six talking honey badgers.

I’m getting too much of a Scott Pilgrim vibe to get into the story so far. I’ll keep reading a bit, but so far I’ve mostly rolled my eyes.

I like this art style AND the newer stuff, but sometimes the faces are like BAM ANIME and I really don’t like that personally.

Sparticus is my favorite so far. He’s awesome.
